On January 15, 2025, Brazoria County Sheriff’s Deputy Jesus “Jesse” Vargas tragically lost his life in the line of duty. Deputy Vargas, a dedicated 17-year veteran of the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office, was fatally shot while serving an arrest warrant while serving on as a Task Force Officer with the U.S. Marshal’s Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force. His unwavering commitment to protecting his community has left an indelible mark on his colleagues, friends, and the entire Brazoria County and Houston community. Deputy Vargas is survived by his loving wife and three children.
