Chris proudly served his country in the United States Army before dedicating more than 20 years to law enforcement. Throughout his distinguished career, he served as Chief of Police for Knox City, Chief of Police for Munday for over eleven years, and ultimately as the elected Sheriff of Knox County. Whether wearing the uniform or serving his neighbors, Chris was known for leading with humility, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to his community. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, proud “Pops,” and faithful member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
Sheriff Mendoza’s End of Watch was June 23, 2026, following a courageous battle with cancer. After achieving remission, the disease returned aggressively and spread, ultimately claiming his life. True to his character, Chris faced every challenge with incredible determination, often saying he was going to “give it hell,” and he did. His strength, faith, and resilience inspired everyone who walked beside him throughout his fight.
This fundraiser gives friends, fellow law enforcement officers, and supporters across the country the opportunity to honor Sheriff Mendoza’s legacy while providing direct support to the family he loved so deeply.
Proceeds from this fundraiser will be donated directly to Sheriff Mendoza’s family through the Relentless Defender Foundation, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, making all donations tax deductible.
